What is testosterone?

Testosterone is a hormone produced by male testicles. It is also produced in small quantities in female ovaries and adrenal system. Testosterone helps maintain men's:

Facial and body hair

Sperm production

Testosterone levels dip with age

Testosterone levels are at their peak during adolescence and early adulthood leading to intense sexual desires. However, as people get older their testosterone level dips. In fact, it declines about 1 percent a year after age 30 or 40.

It is, however, important for aging men to determine if declining testosterone level is owing to normal or because of a condition known as hypogonadism in which the body is unable to produce normal amounts of testosterone due to a problem with the testicles or with the pituitary gland that controls the testicles. Testosterone gels or injections are normally prescribed by doctors to remedy the situation.

Testosterone side effects

Seek medical help urgently if you are taking testosteroneinjections and start displaying signs of an allergic such as difficulty in breathing, swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat. Testosterone injections could also lead to formation of blood clot in lungs. Call emergency if you experience symptoms like chest pain, dizziness, shortness of breath, urge to cough, tightening of throat, fainting, etc.

Excessive use or abuse of testosterone can cause harmful or irreparable effects, such as enlarged breasts, small testicles, hypertension, infertility, addiction, heart attack, stroke, liver disease, kidney disease, bone growth problems and mental effects such as hostility and violence.

Call your doctor immediately if you experience:

Iron Supplements :-

Iron is essential for producing red blood cells; so, you may require iron supplement tablets. People with CKD are unable to absorb iron from the stomach and sometimes they need iron injections.

Phosphate Binders :-

Sodium Bicarbonate:-
